The Washington Commanders have been quite active in the market lately. Judging by their early actions, we will see meaningful changes in the team’s outfit this season. The Commanders have completed two crucial signings: a new quarterback and a new running back.

Marcus Mariota - QB

The team from the capital has made an exciting move by signing Marcus Mariota to a one-year contract worth six million dollars. This move has raised many questions among the fans and experts of the sport, given that the team already has Sam Howell, who started all 17 Games as a quarterback last season. Mariota’s arrival now creates a situation where the CoMMAnders have two quarterbacks on their roster, which is not a common scenario in the sport.

Moreover, the team also holds the second pick in the upcoming draft, which many consider a quarterback draft. This means the Commanders have several options to add to their quarterback lineup. However, given that they already have two quarterbacks, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team decides to trade the second pick for many picks in the first and later rounds.

Austin Ekeler - RB

Austin Ekeler, a former running back for the Los Angeles Chargers, has signed a two-year opt-out contract with the Washington team. The contract is worth almost $12 million, and Ekeler is set to earn $4.82 million in the first year. This amount includes a $3 million bonus and $1.5 million in incentives for the season. Ekeler is 5′10″ tall and weighs 200 lbs.

Austin Ekeler has been a key player for the Chargers for seven seasons. During his time with the team, he has accumulated 990 carries for 4,355 yards, caught 440 passes for 3,884 yards, and scored a total of 69 touchdowns. However, in 2023, he experienced one of the worst years of his career. He struggled with an average of just 3.5 yards per carry, and had difficulty with drops. He also scored just five rushing touchdowns, compared to the 25 he had scored during the two previous seasons.
