When will the new amateur World Boxing Federation hold their first World Championship, and where?
The prestigious international Boxing federation, World Boxing, announced excitedly that it would host their long-awaited World Championship in the vibrant city of Liverpool next year. This will probably mark a pivotal moment in the federation’s ongoing efforts to solidify its standing as a prominent and respected internationally recognized organization.
Established in 2023, World Boxing boasts a membership of 44 nations and is dedicated to filling the void left by the International Boxing Federation (AIBA).
In a major turn of events, the International Olympic Committee suspended the AIBA last year after a series of misconduct cases and systematic corruption. While this suspension did not impact the Olympic Games in Paris, it does mean that Boxing may not be featured in the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 unless substantial changes are made and national federations align with the new organization, as advised by the IOC.
When will the new amateur federation hold its first World Championship?
The upcoming World Championships in Liverpool will be a groundbreaking affair. It will encompass events for both male and female boxers, a departure from the previous practices of the AIBA organization. Athletes will compete across ten weight categories, promising an exhilarating and diverse talent showcase.
The championship will be held from September 4 to 14 at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena next year.
At the same time, AIBA will organize two World Championships next year - the men’s tournament in Astana and the women’s in Belgrade.
