Leading Europe’s Elite: Celtic’s Champions League Standing at the Halfway Stage
Celtic’s stunning 3-1 win over RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening has propelled them to dizzy heights in the UEFA Champions League at the halfway mark of the league phase.
Matchday four ended last night, with Club Brugge, Atletico Madrid, and Brest all picking up eye-catching victories.
Results yesterday evening confirmed the Bhoys’ place in 15th in the league phase halfway through.
Celtic have seven points and a goal difference of zero from their opening four Games, putting them ahead of some of Europe’s elite, such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Milan, Atletico Madrid, PSG, and, of course, RB Leipzig:
Opta stats say 10 points should be enough to see teams through to the last 16 play-off stage. With Club Brugge and Young Boys still to play at home, along with trips to face Dinamo Zagreb and Aston Villa, one wouldn’t put it past Celtic achieving their goal.
Their respectable start to the league phase has somewhat defied the odds, and the Hoops’ most difficult fixtures are already out of the way.
The Belgian champions could cause them some bother, as could Dinamo and Co., but from their Games so far, Brendan Rodgers and his players will be delighted with their return.
This weekend, though, attention falls away from the European scene as the Celts return to domestic action against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
