Colombia vs Ecuador: CONMEBOL qualifier preview
The Colombians missed out on Qatar 2022, but are well placed to book a spot at World Cup 2026, which is to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Having won five of their first 10 games - including victories over Brazil and world champions Argentina - Los Cafeteros headed into November’s international week sitting second in CONMEBOL’s 10-team qualifying group, from which the top six will qualify automatically for next year’s finals.
In their most recent World Cup qualifiers, Néstor Lorenzo’s men fell to a 1-0 defeat to Bolivia in the high altitude of El Alto, before bouncing back with a 4-0 thumping of Chile in Baranquilla.
Ecuador, meanwhile, came out of October’s qualifiers lying in fifth, one point ahead of the seventh-placed Bolivians, after a pair of goalless draws with Paraguay and Uruguay.
Under Sebastián Beccacece, who took over from Félix Sánchez in August, La Tri are attempting to reach consecutive World Cups for only the second time in their history.
Before travelling to Colombia, Ecuador host Bolivia in Guayaquil on Thursday November 14; the following day, the Colombians visit Uruguay in Montevideo.
When does Colombia vs Ecuador start?
