Bolivia vs Paraguay: CONMEBOL qualifier preview
Having failed to qualify for the World Cup since 1994, Bolivia went into November international week sitting seventh in CONMEBOL’s 10-team qualifying group - one point behind sixth-placed Paraguay, who last made the finals in 2010.
The top six in the standings will book an automatic berth at the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico, while the seventh-placed finisher will have to negotiate an inter-confederation playoff for a spot at the tournament.
The Bolivians were thrashed 6-0 in Argentina in their last qualifier, but against Paraguay will have the benefit of being used to the thinner air in El Alto, a city located some 13,000 feet above sea level.
Before hosting the Paraguayans, who defeated Venezuela 2-1 in their most recent qualification clash, Bolivia take on Ecuador in Guayaquil on Thursday November 14. On the same day, Paraguay, welcome the Argentinians to Asunción.
