Coco Gauff is set to be one of Team USA’s biggest stars at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, especially after being confirmed as one of the United States’ flag bearers alongside NBA superstar LeBron James. Gauff and James will carry the Stars and Stripes at the opening ceremony on Friday, after which the Tennis star will turn her attention to on-court events in the women’s singles tournament.

Who will Gauff play in her first 2024 Olympics match? When is it?

On Thursday, the first round draw pitted second seed Gauff against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in the last match in the bracket. First round clashes in both the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, although the Olympics have yet to decide on an order of play. We will update this information once it is available.

When does Gauff play in the women’s and mixed doubles? Who are her partners?

The scheduling of the Gauff-Tomljanovic match will also have to take into account the 20-year-old’s participation in the women’s doubles alongside Jessica Pegula, as well as the mixed doubles with Taylor Fritz.

Gauff and Pegula will play their opening match against Daria Saville and Ellen Perez, also of Australia, on either Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. The 2023 US Open champion and Fritz, meanwhile, will first be in action against Elena Rybakina and Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan on Monday, July 29 or Tuesday, July 30.

Atlanta native Gauff and Tomljanovic, currently ranked 123 in the world, have never previously faced each other. The winner of the match will take on Argentina’s María Lourdes Carle or Tatjana Maria of Germany in round two.

Gauff to make Olympic Games debut

At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, which took place in 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic, Tomljanovic was eliminated in the second round by Ukrainian fourth seed Elina Svitolina. Gauff was unfortunately forced to pull out of the event after testing positive for the illness days before it began.
