WhatsApp can silence calls from unknown numbers
In its latest feature, WhatsApp has introduced a new tool that will automatically mute calls coming from unknown numbers. The feature is available in Settings under Privacy and then Calls.
According to WhatsApp, the feature will help “screen out spam, scams, and calls from unknown people for increased protection.” Though silent calls will still appear in user's call log, the screen won't display or ring during the incoming call.
The new privacy tool comes after various reports indicating a rise in spam calls especially in India. Last month Tech Crunch reported that the company had introduced a new enforcement system that used machine learning to reduce the amount of spam calls by a claimed 50 percent.
Along with the silence feature, WhatsApp has also introduced a “Privacy Checkup” that will inform users about the privacy and security options WhatsApp offers, step-by-step. The checkup will include additional privacy options like two-factor authentication, biometric authentication to access chats, or controlling how others unknown users can contact them.
