It would be safe to say that the Sky’s woman in the middle has set the league alight in her maiden campaign in the WNBA. Aside from an All-Star nod, the former LSU star has also planted herself firmly in the mix for the Rookie of the Year award.

Angel Reese sets another WNBA single-season record

If it wasn’t already plain to see, the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese is by far one of the biggest stars in the WNBA right now. Indeed, the 22-year-old gave an impressive reminder of that idea on Sunday when she broke the league’s single-season total rebounding record.

By grabbing what was her 405th rebound of the 2024 season against the Minnesota Lynx, Reese surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ count of 404 in the 2018 season. To be clear, Reese’s milestone is outstanding and comes as yet another record for a player who still has another eight games to play on the slate and seemingly shows no signs of slowing down. Reese, as fans will know, also holds the record for most consecutive double-double performances with 15.

Additionally, she is also the only rookie to record at least 23 double-doubles, and the only WNBA player to notch 20 or more rebounds in three consecutive contests. It should be said that Reese’s rebounding has been consistently impressive for the duration of the season so far, something that is now officially backed up by the records she has set and what’s more is that her mark is not likely to be bettered for quite some time to come.

Do recall that with several games still left to play, it’s almost certain that her tally will increase. This is all to say, expect both Reese and the Sky to build on her performances as they head into the home stretch of the campaign. Next up for the Sky and their rookie star is a date with the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, September 3rd.
