The 2024 Valspar Championship is scheduled to conclude the PGA Tour’s Florida swing this week at the Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida. The Copperhead Course is known for being different from typical Florida layouts, with more trees and fewer water hazards. Spanning over 7,350 yards with a par of 71, it is considered one of the most prestigious golfing events. The tournament will test players’ skills and strategies, with the unique “snake pit” course feature comprising holes 16, 17, and 18 being particularly challenging and strategically important.

The weather conditions are expected to be crucial in shaping this week’s comPetition. Thursday provided favorable conditions for scoring, with Kevin Streelman, a longtime PGA Tour veteran and the 2013 champion, taking the first-round lead with a bogey-free 7-under 64 at the Copperhead Course. However, Friday’s forecast includes the potential for light rain and breeze, adding an element of unpredictability. Moreover, the wind is predicted to be strong throughout the weekend, further complicating players’ strategies and potentially leading to a low-scoring affair. This might also iNFLuence the cut line.

What is the cut line at the 2024 Valspar Championship:

This week follows a series of events with non-traditional or no-cut rules, making it the second consecutive week with a standard PGA Tour cut. This cut determines which players will continue playing in the tournament and which will not. In this year’s Valspar Championship, the top 65 players and ties in the 155-man field will advance to the weekend following the conclusion of the second round.

The second round of this year’s Valspar Championship has been done, and the cut line was set at -1.

Who will miss the cut?

In the projected cut, several players will have to pack their bags, including Tony Finau (+1), Matt Kuchar (+4), and Akshay Bhatia (+3). Among them is Kiwi Golfer Ryan Fox, who shot a disappointing 5-over 76 at Innisbrook Resort in Florida on Thursday. This comes a week after he missed the cut at the Players Championship, despite achieving a hole-in-one on the iconic Island Green at TPC Sawgrass and becoming the first player in tournament History to eagle holes 16 and 17 consecutively. Unfortunately, he is now a dozen shots behind the leader, American Kevin Streelman, due to his recent struggles on the course.

Fox has been dealing with illness. He contracted a virus before his second round at TPC Sawgrass, which left him with a red rash on his hands and feet. He still wasn’t at full strength heading into the latest PGA Tour event. Despite his health issues, Fox works hard to stay competitive and improve his game.
