Despite cruising to a fourth consecutive Premier League title, the general consensus was that Manchester City regressed in 2023/24. They shrugged off domestic competition from a spirited Arsenal side, but were eliminated by Real Madrid on penalties in the Champions League and suffered a shock defeat to a disjointed Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

However City look to be back to their terrifying best at the start of the new season, swatting aside Chelsea and Ipswich in their opening Premier League fixtures. Erling Haaland appears refreshed after a rare summer break and Kevin de Bruyne is back to full fitness after persistent injury issues.

Pep Guardiola has transformed Manchester City over the course of his eight seasons with the club but now, as he embarks on a ninth, this could well be his last. If he can recapture the Champions League in 2024/25 the Catalan coach may decide to bow out at the top of his Game.

UEFA have not yet released dates for each of the games league phase games. They will wait until after the Europa League and Conference League draws to avoid scheduling multiple games in the same city on the same day. The fixture dates for the 2024/25 Champions League will be released on Saturday, August 31.

How many times have Manchester City won the Champions League?

Of all Pep Guardiola’s success at Manchester City, leading the team to its maiden Champions League triumph is probably the most important. The 2022/23 triumph ended years of frustration for City in Europe, during which they had found countless ways to squander commanding positions and losing the 2020/21 final to Chelsea.

But despite having only won the competition once, Manchester City will be many experts’ tip to lift the Champions League in 2024/25. They are the most cohesive team in Europe and have become perennial Premier League champions across the past decade.

With stalwarts like Kevin de Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Ederson all linked with a move away, and Guardiola yet to commit beyond this season, there is a sense that this incredible team is approaching the end of an era. If that were to be the case, all involved would love to sign off with a second Champions League triumph.
