WATCH: Disgraced Luis Rubiales arrested in corruption investigation
Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football federation (RFEF) who resigned after he sexually assaulted Spanish soccer player Jenni Hermoso, has been involved in another Scandal (while still set to go to trial for the former offense).
Upon his return to Madrid after a trip to the Dominican Republic, Rubiales was detained amidst a corruption investigation. Rubiales is suspected of receiving illegal commissions while negotiating a deal to hold the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. Rubiales maintains his innocence for both this and the Jenni Hermoso kiss. Prosecutors in the “Kissgate” Scandal are seeking a sentence of two and a half years in jail for Rubiales.
Rubiales’ house as well as the Football federation headquarters were searched while he was in the Domincan Republic in March. Several arrests were made. As soon as he disembarked, detectives were waiting for him on the tarmac and the Civil Guard took him to their headquarters in Tres Cantos.
