Warriors Front Office Makes Troubling Confession About Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is coming off one of the greatest showings of his career at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

With the eyes of the world watching him, surrounded by future Hall of Famers, Curry stood above pretty much everyone not named LeBron James and played a pivotal role in Team USA claiming a gold medal at this year’s Games.

With Curry having reminded everyone how incredible of a talent he is, many began taking a closer look at the composition of the Golden State Warriors and why the team was so bad last year. Klay Thompson’s messy departure from the organization over the offseason, amid his worsening relationship with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, also highlighted how rough things are looking roster-wise for the team in 2024-25.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, there is an understanding within the Warriors’ front office that this team, as presently constructed, cannot legitimately compete for a championship.

“The key Warriors’ stakeholders grasp Curry’s sustained greatness and, team sources said, there is an internal understanding that his current supporting cast can’t be considered a finished product if the 2025 NBA championship is believed to be a reachable goal,” he wrote.

Much as is the case with the Los Angeles Lakers, it is stunning that the Warriors can have one of the greatest players of all time on the roster and still fail to surround him with any sort of meaningful talent. Curry is one legitimate star away from winning another title or two – but Golden State can’t seem to provide that to him.

For a second it seemed like the Warriors were on the verge of adding Lauri Markkanen, someone who could have served as a proper Robin to Curry’s Batman, but one major roadblock scuttled that deal.

Now the Warriors’ plan for the future is much less intriguing. Can the front office ultimately find a way to give Curry the help he so desperately needs ahead of next season? An answer one way or another will emerge in the coming months.
