Warriors Facing 1 Major Roadblock In Lauri Markkanen Trade

The Golden State Warriors are one of the heavy favorites to acquire former All-Star Lauri Markkanen in a potential trade.

As things currently stand, three teams are vying for Markkanen’s services.

Golden State has widely been acknowledged as having the best possible package available.

Unfortunately, in recent days, one major roadblock has emerged in the Warriors’ pursuit of Markkanen.

“The Warriors only have the ability to offer two outright first-round picks for Markkanen, which they have done to this point, sources said,” wrote NBA insider Brett Siegel.

“Any scenario in which the Dubs would have a chance at landing Markkanen would more than likely require a third team, as Golden State would be attempting to get the Jazz another draft pick or two in a proposal that would include former All-Star wing Andrew Wiggins.

“Moses Moody, pick swaps, and the expiring contracts of Kevon Looney and Gary Payton II are other assets the Warriors have to offer in trade talks at this time.”

The reason why two picks won’t be enough for Markkanen is because an unnamed NBA team has already offered three for him. The Utah Jazz ultimately rebuffed that mystery squad.

With Klay Thompson gone, the Warriors would be a perfect fit for Markkanen. And the 27-year-old, conversely, would slide into the rotation seamlessly.

Over the course of 55 games for the Jazz last season Markkanen averaged 23.2 points per game on 48 percent shooting from the field. He also chipped in 8.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per outing.

Wherever Markkanen goes, he will be a difference-maker. Unfortunately for the Warriors, it is increasingly looking like he may be out of their reach.
