The second match day of the group stage of the W Gold Cup gets underway this Friday and Group A is back in action, where the teams of Argentina, the United States, Mexico and the Dominican Republic can begin to prepare for either the knockout round or the flight home.

One of the tastier match ups of the fixture list is the Game between the USWNT and Argentina: the overwhelming favourite to win the Gold Cup against one of the teams that want to be able to call themselves ‘dark horses’.

Argentina come to this match in need of a win after earning only one point against Mexico on the opening day. If they want to maintain their aspirations of advancing to the next phase, they know in the Albiceleste camp that the key Game in the group is tonight’s match against the USWNT, who themselves come off the back of a convincing victory over the Dominican Republic.

Team USA’s star-studded squad come into this match with the possibility of controlling their destiny in the Gold Cup and the team coached by Twila Kilgore are very much aware of this tantalising possibility.

A win against Argentina would catapult the USWNT into the quarter-finals and could even guarantee them top spot in the group if Mexico do not get a positive result against the Dominican Republic, a team that is also playing with all-or-nothing consequences.

If you want to go to the Gameyou can purchase tickets on the CONCACAF website.

Twila Kilgore is expected to make some changes in the starting eleven for this match against Argentina, with a view to securing a ticket to the next round, compared to the match against the Dominican Republic. Among the changes, Trinity Rodman, Alex Morgan and Rose Lavelle, who started on the bench in the previous match, could be included.

With all that said, here’s how we think the USWNT starting XI could look like against Argentina: Alyssa Naeher, Abby Dahikemper, Becky Sauerbrunn, Jenna Nighswonger, Margaret Purce, Lynn Williams, Emily Sonnet, Rose Lavelle, Olivia Moultrie, Sophia Smith and Alex Morgan.
