Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has the highest basic salary of any tight in the NFL this season, and will this weekend come up against the only player in his position who stands to earn more than him in 2024.

Kelce contract details: how much does he earn at Chiefs?

A performer who has been integral to the Chiefs’ recent period of success, Kelce was handed a four-year, $57.25 million contract extension in summer 2020. The deal, which takes him through to the end of the 2025 season (when he signed it, he still had two years to run on his previous contract), is worth an average annual base salary of $14 million, per NFL finance specialists Spotrac.

According to Spotrac, Kelce’s base salary this season is an unmatched $11.25m - nearly $2 million more than his nearest challenger, the New England Patriots’ Hunter Henry. Next season, Kelce’s base salary is set to rise to $12 million - a figure bettered only by San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, who is in line to pick up $13.4 million in basic pay at the California franchise.

What is Kelce’s overall net worth?

Kelce’s Kansas City earnings are topped by lucrative endorsement deals with brands such as such as McDonald’s, Nike, Bud Light and State Farm, leaving him with an estimated $40 million fortune, per Forbes magazine.

And thanks to his high-profile romance with pop star Taylor Swift, the 34-year-old’s marketing popularity is on the rise. For example, the news agency AP reported in September that sales of Kelce’s No. 87 Chiefs jersey rocketed by 400% after Swift was first seen watching her boyfriend at an NFL game.

While Kelce’s net worth is substantial, it is made to look positively minuscule by Swift’s bumper fortune. Also 34, the 14-time Grammy-winning singer is now worth $1.1 billion, Forbes says.

Will Taylor Swift be at the Super Bowl?

Having attended all of the Chiefs’ 2023 playoff Games so far, Swift is expected to be at Allegiant Stadium for the NFL championship Game. As part of her ongoing Eras Tour, the singer-songwriter is currently on a four-night run of concerts in Tokyo, with her final show taking place the day before the Super Bowl - but she appear to have ample time to make it back from Japan to cheer Kelce on.

Indeed, the Japanese embassy in Washington, DC, has sought to reassure Swift that she can make it to Nevada for the Game.

In a light-hearted, pun-heavy statement earlier this month, the embassy said it “can confidently Speak Now to say that if she departs Tokyo in the evening after her concert, she should comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins”.
