My best bet: Dalano Banton 4+ assists (+150 at FanDuel)

The Portland Trail Blazers were absolutely blown out in their last Game against the Miami Heat, losing by 60 points. Yes, you read that correctly: the Trail Blazers lost 142-82. A blowout is a nightmare when it comes to betting on Overs for NBA player props because it usually means decreased minutes in the fourth quarter for a team's top players.

So, with the Trail Blazers trading as a 16.5-point underdog on Monday, the blowout potential is once again high but there was something that caught my eye from the game against the Heat. Trail Blazers guard Dalano Banton, whom they acquired at the NBA trade deadline from the Boston Celtics, still played 30 minutes despite it being a 60-point game.

Banton has been thriving in a sixth-man role for the Trail Blazers and is still averaging 31.5 minutes per game since switching to this role seven games ago. With what we're seeing from Banton's minutes, I think it's pretty clear that the Trail Blazers are using the rest of the regular season to find out what they have in Banton, regardless of the score in the game.

The goal is to give Banton 30+ minutes a night, and this is valuable when it comes to betting on his player props because it provides us with a sense of guarantee to the minutes we should expect to see for our projections.

Banton does have a boom-or-bust element when it comes to his assists prop, so with the projection sitting at 3.9 for Banton against the Orlando Magic, I'm going after the alternate total of 4+ assists. Based on our projection, we can price the 4+ assists at -114, which gives us an expected value of 33%. Whereas if we used this same projection on a 2.5 (-165), our expected value is only 17%.

I don't think anyone came to this article, read that the best bet was on an alternate total for Banton's assists prop, and then continued to scroll to the SGP in hopes of finding an SGP that didn't have a juicy plus-money price. So I'm not going to disappoint here; I'm pairing the Over on Banton's assists prop with an alternate Over on his points prop.

If Banton gets the minutes I think he will and the Game becomes less comPetitive because of the spread, I think it's a lot more probable that Banton hits both of these alternate totals than the Sportsbooks have it priced at. One thing about Banton is he isn't shy once he gets into the Game; he knows this is his opportunity to show the Trail Blazers that he belongs in the rotation and in the NBA.

I am also pairing Banton's Over on his assists prop with Kris Murray hitting more than 1.5 three-pointers on Monday. I'm looking to stay away from Deandre Ayton because I believe his minutes could be impacted if the score does get out of hand, but Murray, on the other hand, I believe he will see his minutes regardless of the score. Similar to Banton, he is someone that the Trail Blazers just want to get as much run as possible before the season ends.
