Trae Young’s time with the Atlanta Hawks appears to be coming to an end.

Ever since the conclusion of the 2023-24 NBA season, rumors have run rampant that all parties involved are looking for a change.

The Hawks have made it no secret that they would like to reconfigure the roster. What has been less than clear, however, is how they plan on doing it.

Young, for his part, seems ready for a change as well.

According to reports, he is not only open to a trade – but he would like to be moved to one of three NBA teams.

“The Hawks are certainly expected to now gauge trade possibilities for Murray, All-Star guard Trae Young, Clint Capela and the rest of their rostered players who aren’t named Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher, sources said,” NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote this week.

“Young does have the Pelicans in mind of preferred possible next teams, league sources told Yahoo Sports, in addition to the Spurs and Lakers, but Young’s fit has never made much sense for a New Orleans situation that currently features C.J. McCollum in its backcourt.”

ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst talked about the odds of Young landing in L.A. just a few months ago. It will be interesting to see how Rob Pelinka opts to navigate the challenges at hand.

If not the Lakers, the Spurs obviously make a ton of sense as well. There is just one problem preventing Young from landing in San Antonio at the moment.

Finally, it is hard to see the Pelicans making a move here unless it includes Brandon Ingram in some capacity. But is difficult to see Atlanta wanting to take him back in any proposed swap.

One way or another, Young looks like he will be on the move this summer. Where will he be once the 2024-25 NBA season ultimately tips off? Time will tell.
