The Atlanta Hawks received the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft this past week. Despite having a three percent chance of procuring the top spot, somehow, they got it done.

Many are now wondering whether this year’s draft will mark a turning point for the franchise.

Over the past few years, the Hawks have tried to make it work with Trae Young as the franchise centerpiece. It hasn’t produced a ton in the way of results.

In recent months there have been murmurs that maybe Atlanta is ready to move on.

A few weeks ago, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst offered his thoughts on how he expects Young and the Hawks to proceed from here.

This week, Young posted a message to social media that some believe may hint where he hopes to end up:

The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to Young for some time now. Although some within the organization have suggested that they don’t actually want Young, where there is this much smoke, there’s usually fire.

Young may not be an ideal all-around point guard, what with his awful defense, but he is still more natural in the position than anyone the Spurs had playing the one this past year.

When you have a rim protector like Victor Wembanyama, you can afford to give up a little defense on the perimeter in favor of what he brings to the table offensively.

Obviously a lot of pieces still need to come together in order for Young to land in San Antonio, but it certainly feels like there is currently interest from both sides in making something happen.
