Scott Brown on KT’s Potential Celtic Return and What Former Teammate Must Focus On
Scott Brown has addressed growing rumours of Kieran Tierney’s potential return to Celtic, calling the idea “unbelievable” but advising the left-back to prioritise re-establishing himself at Arsenal.
Tierney, who departed Celtic Park in a £25 million move to Arsenal in 2019, has struggled for consistent Game time under Mikel Arteta. After a season-long loan at Real Sociedad and a hamstring injury during Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign, speculation is rife that the 27-year-old could seek a fresh start in January.
The rumour mill kicked into overdrive when Tierney was seen chatting with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at the Celtic FC Foundation’s London Gala event, igniting talk of a possible homecoming to Parkhead.
Speaking on Hotline LIVE, Brown, who played alongside Tierney during the defender’s formative years at Celtic, acknowledged the allure of a return but emphasised the challenges Tierney faces at Arsenal.
“He is at Arsenal now, and he obviously wants to go back and play Games,” Broony said.
“It’s up to him what he does and where he goes. If he was ever to come back, it would be unbelievable. But for me, I think he’s got to focus on Arsenal and get back into that team.
“They’re a fantastic team as well. You never know, he could go and win the Premier League with them. When he first got into the team, they loved him. He’s still only 27. I’d like to see him do something like win the Premier League.”
Celtic fans would undoubtedly welcome Tierney back with open arms, but the club’s ability to meet Arsenal’s demands—especially with interest likely from other suitors—remains uncertain.
You also have to admit that it would be a massive gamble bringing KT back to the club. His injury record since leaving Celtic is extremely concerning, and he doesn’t seem like a player who could play two or three Games a week for Celtic.
It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
