Tia Mowry is reiterating that “all is well” between her and twin sister Tamera Mowry.
On her new reality series, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, Tia, 46, said that she wished she and Tamera “were still close” and that she “could pick up the phone and call her.”
The star later told PEOPLE that “it’s very natural for us to create lives for ourselves” and that there’s “so much love” between the two. A source also told PEOPLE that Tia’s comments about not being “close” to her sister were actually about geography, noting that the comment was “about the lack of proximity in their physical location” given that Tamera lives in Napa and Tia lives in Los Angeles.
Now, speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Friday, Oct. 11, Tia once again clarified the comments she made about the status of her relationship with Tamera on her new reality series, stating that her initial comments were referring to “access.”
“She is a mother. Her children need her. She is also a wife. Her husband needs her,” Tia said. “So she’s just not as accessible as the way it used to be. So I’m comparing it to what it used to be. But I literally just talked to her yesterday.”
“Everything is good,” she added. “I’m gonna say what my cousin says, all is well. Period.”
Tia added that her twin sister is also “in a different place” in her life.
“She’s doing her thing and I’m doing my thing. It’s the same thing with my brother. We were doing movies together, Seventeen Again,” she said of acting with Tia and brother Tahj Mowry on the 2000 film.
“I think the reason people tend to go there is because our careers started together. But just like any sibling, everybody goes off to do their own thing, and you want them to. You want them to be individuals and to fly solo,” the Sister, Sister alum continued. “So there’s nothing harmful in any of that.”
In a previous teaser for her new reality show, Tia discussed the distance between herself and Tamera and how “being alone” amid her divorce from ex-husband Cory Hardrict was the “most challenging part” of it.
“It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her,” she said, speaking to the camera. “But that’s just not where we are right now.”
The star later told PEOPLE that “it is very normal for all of us to take on new roles and responsibilities when it comes to our life.” Tia is mother to son Cree, 13, and daughter Cairo, 6, whom she shares with her ex-husband. Tamera, meanwhile, shares son Aden, 11, and daughter Ariah, 9, with husband Adam Housley.
“My sister has a family of her own,” she said. “… I guess what I’m saying is it’s normal. It’s very natural for us to create lives for ourselves.”
Tia added at the time that, between the two sisters, there’s a “beautiful bonding connection that we have that will never leave.”
“It’s just a part of life,” she further explained of their distance. “People have started to create their own families. It is what it is and that’s okay. There’s no hard feelings.”
