Third man charged in connection with Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade shooting. What do we know?
What was meant to be a day of joyous celebration turned to horror and loss of life last month when gunfire brought an abrupt end to the Chiefs’ public parade following the team’s Super Bowl win. It was later discovered that those responsible for the shooting that resulted in several injuries and the death of a young mother were in fact, teenagers. Now, yet another young person has been charged for their involvement in the terrible crime.
A third man charged in connection with Chiefs’ parade shooting
According to reports this week, Terry J. Young faces charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. As per Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, the 20-year-old’s bond was set at $1 million on Thursday. As mentioned above, Young is the third individual to be charged in connection with the shooting, with Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays being the other two who were charged with the same crimes just one week after the event that took the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan and wounded at least 25 other people outside of Union Station in Kansas City. Incidentally, three juveniles were charged separately in family court on Wednesday, including a 15-year-old boy.
Where details are concerned, prosecutors allege that Young and two other suspects approached another group and began to argue, at which point a member of the group brandished a gun. Young is said to have then pulled out his own firearm while advancing toward the group of people. As per reports, surveillance video appears to show him firing several shots. The subsequent police investigation of his social media found images of him wearing the same backpack that he is seen wearing in the aforementioned video, while data on his mobile phone demonstrated that he was in fact in the area at the time the shooting occurred.
Baker has now stated that each of the individuals who discharged a firearm that day has now been charged largely due to an immense effort in terms of investigation, given the size of the crowd that was present that day. “We get complicated cases, but this case has been challenging,” she said before adding that both police and prosecutors have come to a pivotal point. “Everyone we’ve identified who discharged a firearm in response to the verbal altercation detailed here has been taken into custody,” Baker said. It is also understood that additional charges are expected to be filed soon.
