'Things can happen' - Alexander Isak responds to Arsenal transfer links
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak insists he has not yet given any thought to rumours of interest from Arsenal.
The Magpies have been tipped to sell a number of their top stars this summer to avoid falling foul of the Premier League's financial regulations, with Isak and midfielder Bruno Guimaraes both heavily linked with moves to a number of European giants.
A lot of recent rumours surrounding Isak concern a potential move to Arsenal, who are ready to spend big on a striker this summer.
Asked about the speculation, Isak insisted his focus remains on Newcastle but admitted he could not predict what the summer transfer window could hold.
"It doesn't affect me that much," he told Espressen. "It has been talked about many times, in many windows. I see it as just [speculation].
"Everyone knows that summer is coming and if things show up, things can happen, but I actually haven't even thought about it."
One thing Isak could concretely rule out this summer is surgery on a groin injury. Reports in England suggested the 24-year-old needed to go under the knife at the end of the season, but Isak has put those rumours to bed.
"It was a strange rumour, actually," he said. "I don't remember who it came from, but there was no person trustworthy enough to say such a thing. So, that's not true.
"[The season] has been hard, precisely because it has been difficult to get into a flow. Or when you have just done it, you have had a setback. It's almost a little nicer to know that you'd be gone for a longer time than to have these little bumps.
"Then our situation in the team hasn't helped either, the availability of players. At some point I've come back from an injury and had to play three Games in one week. It's not optimal either. At the same time, we have had important matches and an important season."
