The NBA announces Jamal Murray’s fine: Will he be suspended?
During Game 2 of the NBA semifinals, the Nuggets’ Jamal Murray was so disgusted that he threw a heating pad and a towel onto the court in the direction of an NBA official.
While fans and pundits have speculated that were it anybody else, they would have been suspended, the league has stopped short of that sanction, choosing instead to fine Murray $100,000 for the tantrum.
Fans have been quick to point out that throwing objects onto the floor during live play is potentially dangerous to both officials and players. While the amount of the fine may seem large, it equates to just 0.003% of Murray’s annual income.
With Murray still available for Game 3, some are critical of the league, however, NBA pundit Tim Legler pointed out that Murray was only 3 for 18 on the evening, quipping, “I’m not shocked he missed Marc Davis with that heat pack.”
