It’s signature event time on the PGA Tour with The Memorial Tournament taking place at Muirfield Village and defending champion Victor Hovland, making his first appearance since the PGA Championship, will be eager to fine-tune his game ahead of next week’s US Open at Pinehurst.

With the Arnold Palmer, Players Championship and Masters titles to his name this season, world number one Scottie Scheffler remains the player to beat and he is the favorite to chalk up another win ahead of the 3rd Major. Reigning PGA champion Xander Schauffele is making his first appearance since that Valhalla triumph and is expected to go well, while Rory McIlroy will be hoping to build on last week’s tied-4th finish at the Canadian Open.

The Memorial Tournament golf picks and predictions

Patrick Cantlay (+2500)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

It’s a stacked field at Muirfield Village Golf Club and while those 3 market leaders of Scheffler, Schauffele and McIlroy will attract plenty of support, course specialist Patrick Cantlay looks a solid shout and he could end a near 2-year wait for his 9th PGA Tour title. The American won here in 2019 and 2021, fending off Adam Scott by 2 strokes before edging out Collin Morikawa in a playoff, while his other results at this venue read 35th, 4th, 7th (Workday Charity Open), 32nd, 3rd and 30th.

Cantlay’s best Golf this season has come at the signature events, having recorded top-5 finishes at the RBC Heritage and Genesis Invitational, and the fact a hot putter has been key to Memorial success over the years only increases the world number 9’s chances of a 3rd title.

Sam Burns (+6000)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Sam Burns has shown positive signs since the birth of his first child and he arrives here off the back of a tied-10th finish at the Canadian Open, adding to his recent T13 at the Wells Fargo Championship. The American’s long Game was in fine shape throughout the Ontario event and if he can rediscover his putting touch from the opening round, which had him ranked 6th in strokes gained: putting, he could improve on his best Memorial result of 16th that came last year.

Billy Horschel (+7500)

Odds available at Bet365 at time of publishing.

Billy Horschel found himself back in the winners’ circle in April’s Corales Puntacana Championship and he kept that momentum going at the PGA Championship, recording a T8 finish for just his 2nd top-10 result in a Major. Although the 37-year-old Floridian’s putting style is horrible on the eye, he has been superb on the greens this season and ranks 7th in SG: putting, while he is also 10th in SG: total. Horschel recorded a couple of top-10 results at Muirfield Village before roaring to a 4-stroke victory in 2022 and his recent return to form could put him right in the mix.
