The Marvelettes, an American all-girl group, achieved recognition within the early to mid-Sixties. They had been the primary main profitable act of Motown Data after the Miracles and its first considerably profitable woman group after the discharge of the 1961 number-one single, “Please Mr. Postman”, one of many first number-one singles recorded by an all-female vocal group and the primary by a Motown recording act.

Based in 1960 whereas the group’s founding members carried out collectively at their glee membership at Inkster Excessive Faculty in Inkster, Michigan, they ultimately had been signed to Motown’s Tamla label in 1961. Regardless of their early successes, the group was eclipsed in recognition by teams just like the Supremes, with whom they shared an intense rivalry.

The group ceased performing collectively in 1969 and, following the discharge of The Return of the Marvelettes in 1970, that includes solely Wanda Rogers, disbanded for good, with each Rogers and Katherine Anderson leaving the music enterprise.

The group has obtained a number of honors, together with the Vocal Group Corridor of Fame and the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Basis. In 2005, two of the group’s most profitable recordings, “Please Mr. Postman” and “Don’t Mess with Invoice” earned million-selling Gold singles from the RIAA.
