The cheerleaders of Netflix series “America’s Sweethearts” and where they are today
Netflix released a seven-part documentary series that took us behind the scenes of the auditions process for the 2023-24 NFL season and the lives of the famous Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” revealed the cutthroat process of becoming one of DCC as well as the consequences that come along with the high standards they are expected to keep.
A job that takes up most of their free time for shockingly low pay, being a DCC is “the best job in the world”, but takes its toll both mentally and physically. In the series, we got a look into the personal lives of some of the women who made it on the squad and some of those who didn’t. Here’s where some of them are today.
Reece Allman
Reece was one of the rookies who made it on the DCC squad in 2023. In the series, she talks a lot about her fiancé, Will, who is also featured in the show. They have since gotten married in April of 2024 and she shares some of their lives on her Instagram.
Reece began dancing at the young age of 3, and had dreams of becoming a professional dancer and studied dance at the University of Alabama where she danced on the Alabama Dance Team for 4 years. She says that becoming a DCC is her biggest and proudest accomplishment yet. She hopes to have “a family of my own with a lot of fur babies” and eventually get her teaching certification.
Kelcey Wetterberg
Kelcey was one of the primary characters in the Netflix series. She was a five-year veteran and held several leadership positions in the group. In the series, she announces that it will be her final year as a DCC and we also see her get engaged to boyfriend Nate Crnkovich. In addition to being a DCC, Kelcey was a full-time nurse and continues working as a pediatric RN today. She and Nate plan to get married later this year.
Victoria Kalina
Victoria was another one of the main characters in the Netflix series. In a particularly heartbreaking scene, she reveals that she has been dealing with an eating disorder, depression, and anxiety, all of which were amplified after dancing for the DCC. Victoria was a four-year veteran of the squad whose mother, Tina Kalina, was also a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader in her day.
At the end of the series, Victoria announces that it will be her last year with the DCC after facing tough criticism from director Kelli Finglass. In a YouTube Q&A, Victoria announced that she will be moving to New York City to train to become a dancer for The Rockettes, but also welcomes other possibilities like dancing on Broadway. She’s keeping her options open but has big dreams of dancing in New York.
Sophy Laufer
Sophy was not seen on the Netflix show until the very last episode, when an unfortunate incident occurred in which a field photographer touched her inappropriately. She went to the police, but nothing came of it. After investigating the security footage, it was determined there was not enough evidence to make a case against the man. Sophy, who began dancing at the age of 2 and was dancing competitively by 4, and was already a DCC veteran when the show was being filmed. In addition to dancing for the DCC, Sophy is also a dance instructor.
Anisha Kay
Anisha was a newcomer to the DCC with experience dancing for the NBA team Golden State Warriors. After making it through the first round with a Bollywood-inspired solo dance, Anisha was cut during the 10-day training camp. In the series, we see her at her job as an orthodontist, which she still works full-time. She is still an active dancer and specializes in Bollyfusion and teaches classes as well.
