Team USA Decides On New Basketball Coach For 2028 After Steve Kerr
Steve Kerr’s time as head coach of Team USA Basketball had its fair share of ups and downs.
On one hand – he did guide the American side to a gold medal.
Unfortunately, it didn’t come without controversy.
Serbia blatantly accused Team USA of winning the gold due to corruption. Then a literal Olympic basketball referee came out and agreed with the Serbians.
Amid all that, Kerr has also had to fend off accusations and criticism for how he handled Jayson Tatum through this year’s Games, despite his having revealed the real reason he benched the Boston Celtics star.
Needless to say, Kerr won’t be back as head coach of Team USA in 2028 when the Olympics come to Los Angeles.
So who will step into his shoes?
“Steve Kerr is likely to retire as Team USA head coach, which means a new lead voice for 2028 in Los Angeles,” Evan Sidery of Forbes reported this week.
“Erik Spoelstra is viewed as the strong internal favorite to become Team USA’s next in line following Gregg Popovich and Kerr.”
Spoelstra served as an assistant coach for Kerr much in the same way Kerr previously performed the same duties for Popovich.
It is a very natural cycle.
Will Spoelstra be able to lead Team USA basketball to its sixth gold medal in a row? Time will tell.
