Sydney rental applicant stunned by location of kitchen in Chatswood studio
An online rental listing has left social media users stunned because of the unexpected location of the home’s kitchen.
The private studio on Mowbray Rd West in Chatswood, on Sydney’s lower north shore, was advertised on Facebook Marketplace for $365 a month.
The owner posted that it was situated in an ideal location, in front of a bus stop and a short walk to Chatswood shopping centre.

They said it had “great ventilation and abundant natural light” and came with a fridge.
Many other studio apartments around the same location have been advertised for over $400.
It’s unclear when the ad for the studio was posted, but a Reddit user noticed the rental’s kitchen was actually on the building’s balcony and shared screenshots of the advertisement on the social media platform at the weekend.
In the pictures, the home’s laundry with washing machine and sink can also be seen in an outside area.
“Kinda makes sense. Instead of having to walk out to the balcony to eat, you are already there,” one Reddit user said.
“I’d take it if I didn’t have pets and bf — $365 a month? Sign me up,” another person said.
Some social media commented on the thread saying outdoor kitchens were commonly used to keep out food odours and grease, but the studio’s owner did not specify if the rental had an indoor kitchen as well for convenience.
“Perfect to cook that breakfast at 6am in winter,” a Reddit user commented sarcastically.
