Super Bowl 2024: what color was the Gatorade shower for Andy Reid
After winning Super Bowl LVIII, beating the 49ers in overtime by 25 to 22, with a touchdown to clinch it Chiefs’ coach Andy Reid was given the now traditional Gatorade shower, which this year was purple.
That was a repeat from last year, when the shower was also purple. Curiously the previous two showers had both been blue, for the Rams in 2022 and the Bucs in 2021.
The Gatorade shower tradition
The tradition of the Gatorade shower goes back to 1984 when New York Giants defensive tackle Jim Burt doused coach Bill Parcells, in part in celebration, in part retaliation for the brutal work outs he’d been put through.
The Gatorade shower is now a tradition, and what’s more so has a bunch of people guessing, and betting, on which color the shower will be. The color is kept secret right to the point of the shower itself. Options are usually Blue, Purple, Green/Yellow, Orange, Red, Clear/Water and None.
