Santi Giménez sets himself challenge to end barren streak

Mexican striker Santiago Giménez acknowledged that he is going through a bad streak without goals in his team, Feyenoord, which he hopes to end as soon as possible. In an interview with TUDN, the player acknowledged that he has fallen into a slump that has seen him go three Games without making his mark.

“We have to keep working, end this streak of three Games without scoring, make it as quick as possible and what I have to do is score no matter what and then the goals will flow again,” he said.

Giménez honest over performance

Santiago acknowledged that against Lazio in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, he gave one of his worst performances since arriving in European Football.

“Frankly, I played a bad Game, and then I’ve had what I consider great Games, but without scoring. Then came the penalty, I decided to take it that way. I need to keep working, push myself, improve every day, and learn from these experiences,” he acknowledged, referencing the 1-0 defeat.

In the midst of the sea of speculation about the future of his career, the Mexican hinted that he is prepared for the possibility of being able to make the leap to a larger team in Europe.

“Maturity comes from facing challenges. I wasn’t mature when I came to Europe, but I came and learned. I won’t be fully mature to move to another club, but I will go and fight for it. You never reach 100% maturity; you keep learning,” he said.

Giménez is the second-highest goal scorer in the Eredivisie, having scored 13 goals in 11 matches, and he has added two more goals in the UEFA Champions League.
