St Johnstone and Australian international defender, Ryan McGowan, has admitted that he would love to see one Celtic player join him at is club one day.

The 34-yar-old was speaking about Celtic’s performance in the Scottish Cup at the weekend and paid tribute to James Forrest not only for that display, but for what he’s achieved at Celtic over his career.

Forrest has amassed 25 winners medals since he made his first-team breakthtough in the 2009/10 season and McGowan has shared the reason why he wants him in his team.

McGowan says James Forrest terrorises St Johnstone

The Australian centre-back had a little poke at Forrest’s goalscoring record against his club and used that as the main reason he want’s him away from Parkhead and heading to Perth.

McGowan said [PLZ Soccer], “So do you know his record against St Johnstone? I think every time I’ve played against him he scored against me. So if he wants to come to St Johnstone next season I’m more than happy for him to come.

“I’ve honestly played against him since we were kids. I’m two years older than him so I remember the season that he kind of broke through.

“I was at Hearts and up against him and then ever since his record for Celtic is unbelievable.

“And for a homegrown player to have gone on and achieve what he has done I think, again similar to Tavernier, he gets a little bit of unnecessary flak.

“But I think at the weekend it showed you that there’s there’s still a real good quality player in there who knows how to perform at the high level in big Games and take those moments.”

So let’s look at the stats. James Forrest has faced St Johnstone 32 times over his Celtic career. In that. the legendary winger has won 24, drawn five and lost just three.

Forrest has also scored 12 times and created seven assists against the McDiarmid Park side.

His first goal came in the 2011/12 season in a 2-0 away win to the Perth team with his most recent strike coming in the 3-1 home win this season. [Transfermarkt]

So I can see why McGowan can’t face coming up against him again but as for moving to St Johnstone? I suspect Forrest will find it tough moving to another Scottish club.

With one year left on his contract, Forrest is probably more focused on winning more silverware with Cetic rather than his next move and after his performance against Aberdeen on Saturday, it id likely he will still have a big part to play in that over the next few weeks.
