With just four Games left of the season, Celtic’s win over Dundee helped keep Brendan Rodgers’ three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership intact.

A double from James Forrest thrust the legendary Celtic winger into the spotlight as the former Scotland international grabbed all the headlines.

The 32-year-old has proven he still has a lot to offer Celtic this season after his goal at Hampden last week and his Dens Park goals against Dundee.

And as pundits and former players gushed over Forrest, Pat Bonner noticed a little tactic that Brendan Rodgers deployed in his post-match Dundee interview that could give Celtic an edge in the title race.

Rodgers ‘building up’ Dundee for Rangers game

This isn’t the first time that this tactic by Brendan Rodgers has been noticed over the last couple of weeks.

We told you earlier this season that Pat Nevin noticed how Rodgers used his post-match Ross County comments to put pressure on Rangers and just last week, Neil McCann backed that theory up as well.

As it happened, Rangers dropped points against The Staggies and Dundee and gave Celtic a huge advantage at the top of the table. And Bonner believes the Celtic manager has just done it again.

Bonner said [Scottish Football Podcast], “And you’ve got to handle it [the pressure of the title race]. And that’s what was probably pleasing for him, to a point, that they got away with it [Dundee win].

“But he gave a lot of credit to Dundee and he’s probably maybe even thinking that Dundee have got to play Rangers yet again so he’s building them up a little bit.”

With Rangers now set to face Kilmarnock next Sunday, Celtic have the opportunity to go six points clear with a home win over Hearts on Saturday.

And if that happens, the amount of pressure under Philippe Clement will be huge and in front of a packed and nervy Ibrox crowd, anything could happen.

The Glasgow Derby is next after that and then Rangers play Dundee on the 14th of May where, hopefully, Rodgers’ comments will still be ringing in Tony Docherty and his Tayside team’s ears to help give them the belief that they can get a result at Ibrox should Celtic require it by then.
