The saga of the Ryan Garcia drug samples continues after he tested positive for the banned performance-enhancer ostarine.

King Ry’s bout with Devin Haney has been mired in controversy since the weigh in, when Garcia came in over three pounds overweight, which he later admitted was done to gain a tactical advantage. Then, after his post-bout drug test showed positive for the banned substance, Garcia protested that it was a mistake.

Saying that he would never cheat, ironically only one day after admitting that he cheated on the weight, Garcia blamed the adverse result on either a contaminated sample or by unknowingly ingesting the drug in “trace” amounts.

Haney’s team petitioned the New York Commission to disqualify Garcia, which would result not in a no-contest erasure of the bout, but in actively awarding the victory to Haney. Their basis in doing so was this drug test, pointing out that the levels discovered were 30 to 45 times above what would be considered “trace” amounts.

Each fighter must take a drug test the day before a fight and on the day of the fight, providing what are known as A and B samples each time. Garcia’s B samples were sent away to be evaluated amidst the investigation and while the full report is not expected until the weekend or Monday at the earliest, initial reports by Dan Rafael, Garcia’s B samples for both days’ tests have also come back positive.

Should this turn out to be the case, Garcia faces a ban from professional boxing for up to two years. The story is still developing and Diario AS USA will keep you updated as information becomes available.
