The Timberwolves have surprised everyone this postseason, making it all the way to the Western Conference finals and coming up against a truly historic side in the Dallas Mavericks. While the series isn’t going well at this stage, the Minnesota side have made plenty of new fans along the way with a number of faces making their mark on the league.

One of them is Rudy Gobert. The pivot has shone in the role for the Timberwolves this season and it’s about time, as he was a big bet by the side who spent heavily to tie him down to a deal that put him in a wage bracket with the best the NBA has to offer.

Gobert - Doncic battle causing a stir

Gobert has also been one of the main protagonists in the post-season due to his mini-feud with Luka Doncic. In the last game, which was won at the death by the Serbian, footage of what looked like Gobert pushing Doncic in the stomach flooded social media.

This tussle caused Doncic - never one to shy away from speaking his mind - to call Gobert a “Motherf*cker! before screaming “You can’t f*cking guard me!”

After the game, Doncic took another swipe at his rival, saying I can’t move fast, but I can move faster than him”, referring to the injury that has seen Doncic grimacing during physical plays.

What are Rudy Gobert’s contract details?

The 31-year-old penned a deal with the Timberwolves back in 2022-23 which runs until 2026. He is currently on a whopping cap hit of $43,827,587.

His massive five-year max contract is worth $205,000,002, putting him in the upper echelons of NBA earnings. He has a player option of more than $46m for the 2025-26 season.

As you can see from the graph above, Gobert is, out of the top 15 earners in the league, the only player still in the NBA post-season. This post-season success for Gobert feels like vindication, whose expensive contract has been highly criticised given the lack of consistency he has shown on the court.

Gobert has won his third Best Defender award this season and is one of the key elements of the Timberwolves’ tactical organisation that has seen them fly all the way to the finals. The versatile player was originally drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 2013 NBA draft before being traded to the Utah Jazz shortly after.
