The Houston Rockets visit the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at the Wells Fargo Center on the tail-end of a back-to-back after beating the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday. 

My Rockets vs 76ers predictions are eyeing big man Alperen Sengun to build off his recent brilliance and show out against a depleted Philly team.

My analysis
The Houston Rockets have a very impressive young squad and things look like they’re finally coming together. Houston is third in the Western Conference at 13-6 and just took down the Wolves in overtime in the NBA Cup. 

Alperen Sengun is a big reason for the Rockets' success and continues to show why he’s one of the up-and-comers in the Association. The Turkish-born center is averaging 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists and pulled down a triple-double against Minnesota. 

Sengun finished with an impressive stat line of 22 points, 11 dimes, and 10 boards. He also had three steals and three blocks. Sengun is scoring at a high level lately, hitting the Over in points in three of his last four outings. 

Also, Sengun balled out vs the Philadelphia 76ers in 2023-24, totaling 47 points in two games. Philly is still missing Joel Embiid, which means Sengun can dominate down low given the Sixers’ weaker frontcourt. All signs point to a standout performance for the 22-year-old tonight.

Recent matchups indicate Philadelphia should win this one. The Sixers have grabbed three straight victories against the Rockets, but they are struggling immensely at 3-13, sitting second-last in the Eastern Conference. 

Embiid and Paul George have barely played, which doesn’t exactly help. It’s essentially been Tyrese Maxey and rookie Jared McCain carrying the load.

The Rockets, meanwhile, are 8-2 in their last 10 and have a ton of confidence. A road victory should be in the cards for a surging Houston squad. 

Maxey is having a respectable campaign as Philly’s top option, averaging 24.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. But, he’s shooting just 29.4% from three and hasn’t done a whole lot offensively over the last four games. 

The former Kentucky standout has hit the Over in points just once during that span, scoring 26 on November 22 against the Nets. Maxey was held to 17 points a few days ago in a blowout loss at home to the Clippers. 

Yes, one could say Maxey is due for a big game, but he’s also averaged just 19.7 PPG in November. The Rockets have the second-best defensive rating in the NBA and will keep him under 21.5 points here.
