Rhode Island Weather for February 28, 2023 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
The wildly anticipated winter storm arrives Monday evening and closes out February with light to moderate snow from approx 10-11p to 10-11a Tuesday morning before mixing with rain through the remainder of the day, ending around 7pm. Total snow accumulation should be in a 3 to 5 inch window, varying with decreasing snow to liquid ratio as the temps and dew points rise together into the mid 30’s.
The softer airier snow will be violated by the rain, so the 3 to 5 that we get will end up being quite wet and nasty on the lower back. Morning lows with the snow will be in the upper 20’s rising to afternoon highs in the mid 30’s with a decent northeasterly breeze gusting to 25 mph late morning.
Giving today a – “D”.

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst.
