Revealed: Kasper Schmeichel Rejected EPL Return Opportunity to Join Celtic
New Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has had a quiet start to life in Glasgow.
The Dane has helped the Bhoys to three consecutive victories so far in 2024/25, conceding just once along the way.
Drafted in on a free transfer to replace the retired Joe Hart, Schmeichel arrived at Parkhead to high expectations. So far, the veteran has lived up to them, appearing more than comfortable with the ball at his feet and adorning himself to the supporters.
Schmeichel first heard of the Scottish champions’ interest in him a few days after Denmark exited the Euros. Brendan Rodgers sent him a text, but it has now emerged he could have returned to the Premier League.
In a recent interview with Tipsbladet, the stopper revealed he turned down a move to England’s top flight to join Celtic.
“It is true that there was some interest from the English Premier League”, he said.
“It is always a pat on the back with interest from clubs from such a big league, but I must also be completely honest and say that it was not about clubs at all up at the top of the English table.
“In a top club like Celtic, who are always chasing trophies, there is a lot at stake in each and every match, and I love the demand that every time you go on the pitch, you must only win.
“I could feel that this is what I wanted, so it was a surprisingly easy decision.”
Celtic fans will be pleased to hear that Schmeichel rejected an EPL return to join the Hoops.
Fully committed to the cause, the 37-year-old will be key if the Bhoys are to succeed both in Europe and domestically this season.
