As we enter the final 10 days of the summer transfer window, Celtic remain on the hunt to strengthen numerous positions within Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Several areas need looked at between now and deadline day, one being central defence.

Liam Scales has proved he can cope domestically, but fans are eager to see someone come in the door and push the Irishman for a starting berth alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The American is the best central defender at the club and has started the season well.

The 26-year-old has played 90 minutes in the Bhoys’ maiden three Games of the campaign and although they’ve won all three convincingly, he reckons they can still get better.

“I think we’re definitely capable of more”, said Carter-Vickers (RecordSport).

“We’ve started well, it’s kind of been a continuation from pre-season, but hopefully as the season goes on and we continue to work together, we’ll improve and get better.”

The champions are still wiping away some cobwebs from last year, but have impressed in their first few matches of 2024/25.

Kilmarnock were well beaten on Flag Day before the Hoops killed the Game at Easter Road within the opening 20 minutes.

A week later, Hibs then came to Glasgow but the Celts deservingly went through to the last eight of the league cup.

Celtic fans have been pleased with the way Rodgers has his team playing this term. Carter-Vickers thinks the improvements are no surprise given the manager has now had more time to work with the players.

“It’s early, so for us it’s just about continuing to try to work and try to improve”, he said.

“Since it’s the manager’s second year now, I think it’s only natural that the more time he gets with the group, the more he can implement the way he wants to play and the way he wants to train and work.”
