Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has revealed why he decided to jump at the chance to join the club.

Hojlund completed an initial £64m move to the Red Devils from Atalanta back in August, bringing an end to United's summer-long pursuit of a new star striker.

Having arrived with a back injury, Hojlund had to wait until September to make his debut, but he has quickly cemented his status as a favourite among United fans already with a series of impressive performances.

Though he is yet to find the net in the Premier League, the 20-year-old has grabbed three Champions League goals, including a stellar brace in a 3-2 loss to Galatasaray.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet back in his native Denmark while away with the national team, Hojlund discussed his time at United so far.

"I am still incredibly happy to be in the national team. It continues to be a privilege and I enjoy it every single day. In Manchester, there is a lot of talk about the pressure on me, but I just focus on doing my thing on the pitch, and that is to score goals," he said.

Boyhood United fan Hojlund went on to say that he held various conversations with Erik ten Hag while he was awaiting approval of the transfer, while the promise of regular Football was a decisive factor in making the move to Old Trafford.

"I spoke to the coach up until the transfer. For me, it was important to play Football and if I had been told that I had to go to Manchester United to be a reserve for the rest of my days, I would never have gone there," he added.

"Sometimes I can catch myself looking down at the shirt and thinking 'wow'. I think I'll always be proud to pull the jersey over my head and that's what I try to show on the pitch. I don't get emotional, but I get a little boost."

Hojlund's Denmark host Kazakhstan in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier on Saturday before facing San Marino away from home on Tuesday. He will then return to England ahead of United's trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League.
