Rapper Kendrick Lamar Set to Headline 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Famed hip-hop artist and 17-time Grammy winner, Kendrick Lamar is set to perform at the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show at The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 9 February 2025.

The mega National Football League (NFL) event, which is one of the world’s most-watched live music performances, will be aired on FOX.

This is the first time the rapper will be the main act at a Super Bowl Halftime show. He was previously part of the 2022 Super Bowl show, where he performed alongside Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dr Dre, and Mary J Blige.

All about Kendrick Lamar’s performance at Super Bowl LIX halftime show

Kendrick Lamar is a multi-platinum, Grammy and Emmy award-winning artist and co-founder of the creative imprint pgLang. He has achieved immense success since making his debut with the album, good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012).

In 2018 he became the first hip-hop artist and the first non-classical, non-jazz musician to win a Pulitzer Prize which came for his album DAMN (2017).

“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” Lamar said in a statement following the Super Bowl LIX halftime show announcement.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation involved in the performance

The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX halftime show telecast will be produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers, and Hamish Hamilton serving as director.

While pgLang will provide creative direction for Lamar’s performance, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will serve as the strategic entertainment advisor for the live performance.

In a statement, Jay-Z, who is rap music’s first and most famous billionaire, called Lamar “a once-in-a-generation artist and performer.”

“He has an unparalleled ability to define and iNFLuence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come,” said Jay-Z.

Seth Dudowsky, Head of Music at the NFL, also underlined Lamar’s influence on music.

“Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar. Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop,” said Dudowsky.

Super Bowl Halftime show has won Primetime Emmys

The Halftime show has always been a major draw for audiences around the world, whether or not they are fans of the NFL. With some of the world’s biggest music artists performing in the event, it has long held on to a distinguished status of its own in entertainment.

Earlier in 2024, the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII starring Usher became the most-watched halftime performance of all time and was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2023, the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII halftime show starring Rihanna won two Emmys out of a total of five nods. The 2022 halftime performance, which included Lamar in the line-up, won three Emmys.
