The Washington Capitals host the New York Rangers at Capital One Arena in what should be a very emotional affair after the teams met in last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.

My analysis

The New York Rangers have been one of, if not the best, offensive teams to start the season. Tonight, they take on a Washington Capitals team that they swept from the first round of last season's Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

The Capitals may have won five of their last six games, but one thing that sticks out is their lack of success on the man advantage. Through those six games, they have only converted once on 20 attempts and haven’t scored a single power-play goal in five straight. As a result, the Caps have the third-worst power play in the NHL.

Special teams could play a significant role in this game and the Rangers have a clear edge in that aspect. The Rangers' man advantage is clicking at 25%, but they’re also generating the second-most high-danger chances per 60 minutes at 5-on-5, per Natural Stat Trick. 

The Rangers have been difficult to slow down as they’re scoring 4.25 goals per game (third most) and only allowing 2.00 goals against per game (second best).

Artemi Panarin has been on an absolute tear once again to start the season, registering a point in all eight games. He's not been shy to shoot the puck, leading the team with 29 shots on goal and averaging 3.5 per game. 

The Rangers have come out hot out of the gate to start Games offensive, averaging 1.62 goals in the first period and you can make a similar argument about the Capitals, who are scoring 1.14 goals in the opening frame.
