Quashing Latest Celtic Joe Hart Replacement Rumour

Celtic have been linked with a move for QPR goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a short term replacement for Joe Hart according to TalkSport.

However, it’s our understanding that Asmir is NOT on a list of names to replace Joe Hart in the summer once the Englishman retires.

Joe Hart has just turned 37 and by the time Asmir would sign for Celtic, he would be the same age. A great goalkeeper in his day, but the Hoops are looking for a bit of longevity in goals going forward.

That could mean a 29 or 30-year-old goalkeeper for sure, but the Hoops aren’t in the market for a quick fix. You’d only likely see such a signing if Celtic exhausted their options and had to go into the bargain basement bucket before the window closes [We’re not ruling that scenario out!].

Why has TalkSport reported this Celtic Rumour?

The English based company don’t know a lot about Scottish Football. They see Celtic need a goalkeeper and they see a goalkeeper coming to the end of his deal at QPR – that’s it.

They even ran the story like Celtic face comPetition and it’s a blow that Begovic is open to staying in the Championship with another club this summer. It’s nothing based in any realm of reality, at the moment.

Asmir is certainly a Football journeyman, but Glasgow as a destination is very unlikely.

Joe Hart’s Final Run

Joe’s decision to announce his retirement ahead of time means Celtic have been able to go look at their options and really make the best decision possible come the summer. The Englishman has been a great servant for the club in his three seasons and however the next six Games pan out, he will be remembered fondly — not just as a goalkeeper but as a top person to pull on the jersey.
