In their last series the Braves played the Minnesota Twins. Atlanta won the first two installments of that set 10-6 and 8-6 before a 5-1 victory Wednesday to finish off the sweep. On Thursday in the opener versus the Phillies, the Braves took a tough 5-4 loss. Starter Charlie Morton finished with 5.2 innings and three earned runs.

Over on the Phillies’ side, they took on the Houston Astros in their last set. Philadelphia won 3-2 and 5-0 in the first two then took a 10-0 blowout loss in the finale. In Thursday’s opener the Phillies came back from an early 4-0 deficit to take the win. Christopher Sanchez put up two earned in 5.2 frames as starter.

As starting pitcher for Philly on Friday they’re going with Ranger Suarez. So far Suarez is 11-5 with a 2.82 ERA in 21 starts. Suarez is 40-26 with a 3.28 ERA in 155 career Games (87 starts).

Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Braves. Lopez has a couple of good outings under his belt since returning. In that pair he’s posted two earned in 11.0 innings without a decision. As for Suarez, he’s coming off one earned in 5.0 innings during a win over KC but did have seven earned in 11.0 innings in a pair of losses prior to that.

On Thursday Atlanta was doing great until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Braves couldn’t score after that and dropped what should have been an easy win. Matt Olson did most of the offensive work, so the bats weren’t all that great overall. Atlanta needs a better effort on both sides Friday.
