Highly-Anticipated Plan Finally Revealed for Former New Paltz Business
Chances are if you are from Ulster County near New Paltz you most likely shopped a few times at New Paltz Agway. They were my go-to for many things around my yard and home. I know people from Newburgh who would Travel to the store to pick up supplies because that's how much they loved the store.
It was hard to see it close in April of 2020 but like many things over the past few years, we saw good stuff come to an end. When that happens we all always hope for something great to pop up in its place and this time that looks to be the case.
What is Going On With the Old Agway Build in New Paltz, New York
This past week I noticed some comments being made on a social media page which led me to believe that something was about to happen at 145 N Chestnut Street New Paltz, New York, the old New Paltz Agway building. Comments were being made that the property was being prepared for the old building on the site to be torn down.

That is when I reached out to Maximilian Kimlin to find out more about what would be happening and when. Maximilian got back to me right away and shared not just a timeline with me which I can share with you but he also sent along renderings of what the building going up will look like when it is complete.

The original plan when the property was bought was to put offices there for Kimlin Energy. COVID put an end to those plans, so it was back to the drawing board. Maximilian says that is when he started thinking about other uses including apartments.
He then reached out to Baxter Builders. He says he chose them for their reputation, along with the style and quality of their buildings. The current zoning for that area is for Business - commercial on the bottom and residential on the top. So that is what he asked to have designed as you can see from the drawings.
The building is a mixture of single, two, and three bedrooms with amenities on the first floor and some commercial along N. Chestnut Street. The design is a nod to the Old Main on the college campus which I really love (Maximilian Kimlin)
When Will the New Build Be Finished at North Chesnut Street
According to Maximilian, they have made it through the planning phase relatively fast so they are going to be moving ahead with demolishing the old Agway building sooner than later. Once the building is removed sometime in June they will roll on and hope to be leasing by 2025.
