My analysis

The Boston Bruins suffered a blowout loss on Friday night and may have lost their captain as well. Brad Marchand is day-to-day with an upper-body injury after taking a hit from Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett in Game 3.

Bennett wasn’t penalized on the play and didn’t receive any supplementary discipline, but the Bruins aren’t so sure it was a clean hit.

“People can say it wasn’t intentional,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said on Saturday, “but we have our view of it.”

Whether the hit was clean or not, the Bruins could very well be without one of their most important players for a crucial Game 4 on Sunday evening.

The Panthers have exploited the Bruins’ lack of depth, with their top-six group absolutely buzzing on the ice. Florida had 33 shots on goal in both Games 2 and 3, which is more than Boston had in those two games combined (32).

In terms of total shot attempts, the Panthers hold a 160-102 advantage in the series at 5-on-5, and a 95-56 edge in the last two contests. The Cats also hold a 69-40 advantage in scoring chances at 5-on-5, including 40-20 in the last two games.

Although Jeremy Swayman has played well down the stretch for the Bruins, there's only so much a goalie can do when he's constantly being peppered.
