2024-25 NHL Stanley Cup Best Bet: Edmonton Oilers (+1000)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

We know — it’s not exactly the most outside-the-box pick possible. However, it’s not as square of a pick as you may think. The Florida Panthers are the favorites to repeat, and there are actually a few teams with shorter odds than Connor McDavid and company, including 2 teams from each conference. Of course, the name Connor McDavid is a primary reason for this pick on the 2024-25 NHL Stanley Cup odds.

McDavid did everything he could to bring the Oilers back from down 3-0, and even won the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP despite losing the Cup. Not much hasn’t been said about McDavid at this point, but most recently, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record for playoff assists is an incredible feat. Overall, Edmonton seems to be taking the next step each year, finally making it past the Western Conference Finals this season. Of course, that means the next step is actually winning the Stanley Cup Final.

Aside from the firepower of McDavid and Leon Draisaitl — who are both securely under contract — what has plagued the Oilers for years finally looks improved. That would be their goaltending, and Stuart Skinner progressed in a massive way through the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. With Edmonton being a far more balanced team moving forward, we still love their 2024-25 NHL Stanley Cup odds at four-digit plus-money odds.

2024-25 NHL Stanley Cup Longshot: Winnipeg Jets (+2500)

Odds available at Bet365 at time of publishing.

As for a longshot pick on the 2024-25 NHL Stanley Cup odds, the Winning Jets are flying under the radar, pun intended. It feels like it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen them on the ice, as they were bounced out of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs in the first round. That has them with some of the longest odds of any team that made the postseason this past year.

As we’ve seen time and time again, elite goaltending can carry nearly any team to a Stanley Cup, and that is exactly what the Jets have in netminder Connor Hellebuyck. After leading the NHL in saves made for 4 straight years until this past season, he was still one of the top candidates for the Vezina Trophy. He should also have more help in front of him, as Winnipeg was fighting through injuries all season.

Most notably, Kyle Connor missed nearly 20 games, and outside of Tyler Toffoli, they have nearly their entire roster locked up through next season. That includes Hellebuyck, who they’ve secured until 2029. While Hellebuyck can lift the Jets to their true height, it’s also impressive that they had the sixth-best power play percentage this past season. If they can maintain that balance, we may very well see the Oilers and Jets in the 2025 Western Conference Finals.
