Opta Predict Celtic’s UCL League Phase Finish After Promising Start
Renowned stats provider Opta have predicted Celtic’s UEFA Champions League league phase table finish after the Hoops continued their impressive start to this season’s comPetition on Tuesday.
The Hoops ran riot against RB Leipzig the other night, coming away stunning 3-1 victors on a memorable evening at Parkhead.
Goals from Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate secured victory for the Bhoys, who, at the halfway mark of the league phase, sit with a respectable seven points on the board.
With Club Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys, and Aston Villa up next, supporters are optimistic about their side’s European hopes.
And rightly so. Brendan Rodgers has fans dreaming of continental prosperity, something that has evaded Celtic for over a decade.
The new league phase has benefitted the Scottish Premiership champions so far, and it will continually do so, according to Opta.
Indeed, the stats provider predicts Rodgers’ men to finish 16th in the league phase, a position that would qualify them for the last 16 play-offs, where Opta thinks they have a 40% chance of making it through.
Supercomputers, numbers, and the like can only tell you so much, but Celtic are usually given little hope by data in Europe.
Things are changing this season, though. It feels like a new dawn for the Bhoys in the Champions League.
