Liam Gallagher has given his thoughts on the Saturday Night Live skit which saw actors play him and brother Noel, as fans blasted the ‘cringe’ sketch on social media

Liam Gallagher has unleashed a scathing review of Saturday Night Live, lambasting their comedic attempt featuring actors mimicking him and his brother Noel.

The Oasis legend joined others in slamming the prime time US comedy show for using the notorious sibling rivalry as a punchline, with the act not earning many laughs.

Liam, 52, showed he was far from amused in a telling social media post on X. He distributed a searing four-word reply to the spoof that broadcast on Saturday Night Live where the impersonators bickered childishly – that he “wouldn’t expect anything less.”

Critiques swarmed in from UK viewers ridiculing the performers’ British accents, touting them as the poorest rendition since Dick Van Dyke’s infamous turn in the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

A fan probed Gallagher about the skit on X/Twitter, commenting under a posted segment: “have you seen this?”

Gallagher then weighed in with his thoughts, decrying the skit as “Excruciating.”

He continued, disparagingly remarking: “I wouldn’t expect anything else from them” and questioning “Are they meant to be comedians?”

On SNL, Liam found his likeness humorously exaggerated by Sarah Sherman, while James Austin Johnson portrayed Noel. In the contentious sketch, “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost quizzes the Gallagher pair about their so-called reunion tour and if they can maintain peace during performances. The duo, sporting unconvincing Mancunian dialects, squabble until they unite over their preferences for Sex in the City paramours.

Sherman actually seemed quite thrilled by Gallagher’s blistering retort, retweeting it and dubbing the 52 year old rock legend a “LEGEND”.

However, audiences on social media were less kind after the episode was broadcast. One dismayed viewer lamented on Twitter, “Bloody hell… I don’t mind a bit of SNL but this #Oasis sketch was just AGONY to watch,” further confessing, “Literally couldn’t get through it, it was so bad.”

Another chimed in with disdain: “SNL have done an Oasis bit and it’s just as cringe as you imagine,”.

“Hey SNL, if you’re gonna do Oasis, please don’t make them be from Essex,” complained another watcher, while yet another disgruntled fan commented on Twitter, “JFC, that Oasis segment on #SNL Weekend Update was so bad. Never knew Oasis were secretly from London..”

The previous month saw Gallagher face flak for how he sung at a Wembley Stadium Boxing event performance. This was Gallagher’s first live gig since they dropped news about the Oasis reunion weeks before. When his singing came under attack, Gallagher defiantly responded on social media.

“To all those S—C—-S who were crying about my ANGELIC TONES last night you ain’t real fans your just IMPOSTERS,” he proclaimed. “And if you do have tickets you wanna get rid off I’ll gladly take them off your hands we don’t want the likes of you at our concerts nxt year any way LF–ING.”

The eagerly awaited Oasis tour will sweep across the UK and Europe come 2025, with additional international shows expected to ensue. This includes a trio of sold-out performances at Edinburgh’s Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium.
