A heavyweight matchup is on tap tonight as the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves continue their quest for the No. 1 seed in the West — but it could get lopsided in a hurry as Minnesota's injury report is growing by the hour.

Though Minny rallied in the second half against the Jazz last night behind 32 points and one monster dunk from Anthony Edwards, the victory came at a cost as Naz Reid and Edwards both join Rudy Gobert with a questionable tag here.

The teams are tied in the standings, but Denver is labeled the favorite according to NBA odds despite seeing its five-game win streak halted by a Kyrie Irving buzzer-beater.

We’ve reached the stage with Nikola Jokic where his consistency is so elite his subpar games feel like collector's items.

Jokic had one of those rare duds on Sunday, making just six of his 16 shots while falling short of his season averages in points, rebounds, and assists — and I see the Minnesota Timberwolves feeling the backlash tonight.

Yes, Minnesota has had some success against Jokic with the size and length of Karl-Anthony Towns and Gobert, but the hosts’ frontcourt is hanging by a thread. Towns is out, Gobert is dealing with a rib issue, and Reid left last night’s game with a head injury.

That should pave the way for Jokic to put on a show, and I like the Over on his points and assists tonight.

Pairing those props provides flexibility for how the Joker looks to attack the Minnesota defense. If it sends double teams, he should walk into double-digit dimes. If the Timberwolves guard him one-on-one, he’s going to put smaller defenders in the basket.

Prior to the rough outing in Dallas, Jokic had hit the Over on this number in four of his last seven contests, and his season averages put him right at 35.

I expect Jokic to be aggressive from the jump tonight and get the Denver Nuggets back on track.

My best bet: Nikola Jokic Over 34.5 points + assists (-108 at Caesars)

The Timberwolves’ size has been their No. 1 weapon in prior meetings — including in their 110-89 victory at Target Center on November 1 — but that’s likely to be less of a factor here with mounting injury woes.

While Edwards may be able to play through the dislocated finger he suffered on his poster dunk last night, Gobert and Reid seem like bigger question marks.

I’m picking the Nuggets to shake off the loss in Dallas and cover a 7.5-point spread. Sure, Denver has looked more mortal on the road (20-15), but the visitors have all of their big guns available here and they’ve covered the spread in four of their past six contests.

A runaway road win would mean extended minutes for Peyton Watson, who’s nailed down his spot in the regular rotation with his athleticism off the bench. I’m picking Watson to have at least six points tonight – just as he has in five of his last six Games.

Nuggets vs Timberwolves spread and Over/Under analysis

The line opened with Denver as a 2.5-point favorite, then spiked after more rough injury news for Minnesota. The hosts have covered the spread in their last three games but are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 outings.

The Nuggets came unstuck against the Mavs, stumbling to just 105 points as Jokic and Jamal Murray went a combined 13-for-36 from the field. But I’m not overreacting to that, as the visitors are 8-2 in their last 10 Games.

Though I’m picking Denver to get back on track here, it's been a magnet for the Under. The Nuggets are 42-25-1 to the Under, including their last three contests, and Denver has only scored more than 115 points in four of its eight games in March.

The T-Wolves have hit the Over in six of their last 10 contests, but the Under has been a winner in their past two outings and that looks like the safer play tonight, with key scorers on the injury report.
