New NBA Title Contender Enters Jimmy Butler Sweepstakes

While Paul George is probably the biggest name actually available in free agency this summer, Jimmy Butler has emerged as a target for multiple teams as well.

Although Butler remains under contract with the Miami Heat, there have been a lot of rumblings in recent weeks about both sides wanting to move on.

As recently as a month ago a Heat insider confirmed that a trade involving Butler was imminent. He has been linked to everyone from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Lakers to the New York Knicks.

In recent days an interesting title contender has emerged as a potential frontrunner in the Jimmy Butler Sweepstakes.

According to NBA insider Nick Friedell, the Golden State Warriors are a team to keep an eye on for Butler.

“Jimmy Butler’s name has popped up in the conversation,” he said on 95.7 The Game.

“I think it’s a fit on paper, but I’m not sure how he fits into that locker room as the alpha personality that he is and I don’t know if, after all the wear and tear on his knees, the Warriors would want to give him that extension. That would scare the hell out of me.”

Butler is an extremely talented player, but he is also a polarizing personality. The Heat like to do things a certain way. The “Heat Way,” if you way.

And Butler’s way of doing things doesn’t always jive with that.

The question is just whether the Warriors are any different. How would Butler’s personality mesh with that of Draymond Green’s, for example?

Either way, Butler’s future is one of the more intriguing storylines to keep an eye on as free agency and trade season approaches this summer.
